Magnetic Hill
Magnetic Hill is a must-visit attraction for anyone travelling to Leh-Ladakh. Located around 30 kilometres from Leh on the Leh-Kargil-Srinagar National Highway, it is one of a kind in the entire country. It’s a place where you can experience a strange phenomenon that appears to defy gravity. A yellow signboard reading “The Phenomenon That Defies Gravity” marks the spot. Here, you’ll find a marked area on the road with a white point, known as the “Magnetic Road.” If you park your car in neutral and take your foot off the brake at this specific location, your car will inexplicably begin rolling uphill at a speed of nearly 20 kilometres per hour! This illusion is caused by the surrounding hills and the layout of the land, making a downhill slope appear like an uphill climb. Despite the scientific explanation, the experience is sure to leave you wondering if there might be some truth to the sign’s claim.
